So you think you have what it takes to become a famous
singer? Today we'll discuss two popular ways to
become a famous singer. There are four main ingredients
helpful in becoming a famous singer and for the best chances of
success, you'll probably need a healthy combination of
these:
Plan A - How to Become a Famous Singer on
Reality
TV
I know it seems crazy but these days, reality television
offers a very real opportunity for talented individuals to get
discovered and become famous singers almost overnight. Shows
like American Idol and its counterparts across the world,
Nashville Star, and other reality television programs looking
for singing sensations have the potential to launch you
into a sensational singing career.
Bear in mind though that although finalists in these shows
become famous singers very quickly through television exposure,
they had plenty of talent to start with. In most cases these
singers have been working hard developing their skills for
years before their lucky break came along. Reality TV
contestants create their own luck by being motivated enough to
enrol for the show and participate in auditions. Like Woody
Allen says, "Eighty percent of success is showing up". The show
works as a very powerful "connection" that helps them get the
right exposure and achieve their dream of becoming a famous
singer.
Of course these shows are highly competitive and the odds of
winning one of these contests are very slim. Take American
Idol for example. In order to get onto American Idol you first
have to pass the original screening audition, which means
standing out among thousands of other people with the same goal
to become a famous singer. You'll only have a few minutes at
the most to prove yourself and there are no consolation
prizes for singers who don't make it through the first round of
auditions. They will have to opt for the old fashioned "Plan B"
way to become a famous singer.
If you do make it to the initial contestant
shortlist, then you'll meet the famous
celebrity judges. Be ready to accept criticism and
also gems of useful advice on how to use your talent to to
your advantage to become a famous singer. You will then go
to Hollywood Week and have three more auditions. Assuming
you get through those auditions, you have one more to
be included as one of the top 12 or 13 contestants. This
means you'll really have to stand out from the crowd to
even have a shot at becoming a famous singer through
reality TV.
As you know, it's the American people themselves
who will ultimately decide your fate by
voting each week. If you are not marketable or the judges
don't like you, even if you have a good voice,
you will be eliminated from the contest. With some luck though
even if you do get eliminated at this stage you may have
received enough exposure to launch a successful career as a
singer.
Plan B - The Old Fashioned
Way to Become a Famous Singer
If reality television is too much for you, here is
a more traditional way of how to become a famous
singer.
Start by recording a demo CD and sending it out to multiple
record labels and see if it gets picked up. This is where it
helps to have good connections because the sad reality is that
in most cases your demo will be trashed before anyone ever
listens to it. It's a very competitive industry and many record
labels just don't have the time of day to listen to all the
demos coming in.
You might already have a large circle of artistic friends in
the industry but you can never have too many. Create a profile
on MySpace with demos of your music and mingle with other
artists in your musical genre. The Internet offers great
opportunities to get your music out there, which means great
opportunities to meet the right people and get your music
heard.
Simultaneously you want to do as many gigs as possible. Even
if this means singing in karaoke bars. Start small and take the
opportunities that arise to perform local gigs to get exposure
on the road to becoming a famous singer. As I said so much is
about who you know and having a bit of luck so you need to get
out there and start meeting people and creating your own luck
so that you have the best chances to become a famous
singer.
Of course you won't become a famous singer until
you've developed a professional sounding singing
voice. Here I recommend Singing Success. Singing
Success is recommended by more Grammy award winners
and Broadway directors than any other singing course and can be
studied from the comfort of home.
